They are working to preserve the biodiversity of the Osa Peninsula, home to 2.5% of all the species in the world. ARCAS is a Guatemalan non-profit organisation founded in 1989 by a group of citizens concerned at the speed the local flora and fauna was disappearing from in front of their eyes. Therefore they created a rescue centre that could care for and rehabilitate wild animals confiscated from the black market.Since its inception, the ARCAS Rescue Centre has grown to become one of the largest rescue centres in the world, and now receives between 300 to 600 animals, from over 40 species, each year.

  • SOS Project Turtles, Tierras MayasIn SOS Project Turtles all volunteer teams go at night in search of loggerhead or green turtles (depending on season) in order to protect and preserve the species. To do this they measure, mark and map turtle nests to follow on the research that has been carried out for 20 years or more on the beaches.
